LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Local business leaders are focusing on the importance of making employees feel valued in the workplace.

According to a recent Gallup poll, nearly 70 percent of people who leave their jobs say they do so because they do not feel valued. That finding was highlighted during a presentation to the Lima Rotary Club this week, where members heard from the Assistant Director of the Center for Corporate Engagement at Ohio Northern University.

Mandy Glenn, Assistant Director of the Center for Corporate Engagement at ONU, said the issue often stems from communication gaps within organizations. She noted that many managers are not always equipped with the tools to have effective, meaningful conversations with staff.

“Employee engagement consists of multiple things, some of them being how to have critical conversations with their employees. Employees want to feel valued. Sometimes they don't know how to connect those dots, from the strategy to what they're doing at their desk,” Glenn said.

The Center for Corporate Engagement offers a variety of programs designed to help businesses strengthen communication, improve leadership practices, and develop stronger manager-employee relationships.
