LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - An annual tradition at Shawnee Middle School that prepares its students for the future was put on once again on Thursday.
The annual career fair for 6th, 7th and 7th graders at Shawnee Middle School brings out various community businesses and organizations to meet with students. These face-to-face interactions allow the students to get familiar with career fields that interest them and filter out ones that don't.
School officials are thrilled that for 10 years, the career fair has helped students find clarity on what they want to do after school and build career readiness.
"This is approximately our 10th year doing this career fair, and it's really, really important," said Heather Patterson, principal of Shawnee Middle School. "Within the state, we have career readiness standards, but it's really great to have different businesses and corporations from our community so the kids can get exposed to not only possible careers, but they can also make those connections with the other businesses and the people who run those businesses or work for those businesses, which are also a part of our community."

These face-to-face interactions allow the students to get familiar with career fields that interest them and filter out ones that don't.
There were around 20 local businesses and organizations represented at this year's career fair.
