WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) - An Auglaize County man continues to be an inspiration to others as he marks a milestone birthday.
John Berg celebrated his 80th birthday with friends and family. Berg was diagnosed with cerebral palsy at birth in 1946. During his childhood, there was no local help available for his condition, so he had to travel to different parts of the state to receive the care he needed. He is also a 25-year colon cancer survivor and continues to visit the YMCA to stay active and inspire others not to give up.
“That they can do it. You can do it. I mean, if someone like John, born with cerebral palsy, has gone through a lot of obstacles in life, and if you're born with a healthy body, you should be able to do anything that you choose to do in your life,” says Judith Mason, John’s younger sister.
Mason says the party is just a reflection of Wapakoneta celebrating John’s inspirational story.
