LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — As oppressive heat continues across west-central Ohio, the West Ohio Community Action Partnership (WOCAP) is reminding residents that its Summer Crisis Program is available to help eligible households with cooling and energy costs.
In addition to helping qualified residents with cooling and energy bill assistance, WOCAP also offers an energy conservation program designed to make homes more energy efficient and reduce monthly utility costs.
Through the program, a caseworker visits a participant's home to conduct an energy assessment and recommend ways to lower energy use. Suggestions may include switching to LED light bulbs, installing blackout curtains to reduce heat from sunlight, and using smaller appliances such as air fryers instead of heating a full-size oven during the summer months.
"We can also help with up to $250 worth of products to make that happen. And what isn't covered under that $250, we can at least educate you on things you can do to save you on your energy bill," said Kris Keller, community services director for WOCAP.
Residents interested in learning more about the Summer Crisis Program or the energy conservation program can contact WOCAP at 419-227-2586.
