LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The number of women entering the construction field is steadily increasing in what has traditionally been a male-dominated career path. More women are completing training programs in trades such as plumbing, electrical work, and carpentry. Additionally, they are becoming business owners, engineers, and project managers.
In recent years, the percentage of women in the construction industry has risen from just over 10% to 14% of the workforce, according to the National Association of Women in Construction. The organization emphasizes the importance of recognizing these women for their contributions to the field.

“They are paving the way for future generations and our daughters,” said Courtney Brown, managing member of CMB Here to Help LLC. “They bring so much to the table, whether it be problem-solving, design, relationship-building, or team-building. Women in construction look like project managers, estimators, engineers, and business owners.”
Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith has issued a proclamation declaring March 2-8, 2025, as Women in Construction Week to honor the achievements of women in the industry and encourage future generations to explore opportunities in the field.
