Today is the day many comic book lovers in the area have been anticipating: National Free Comic Book Day.
A long line wrapped around Alter Ego Comics this morning as people eagerly waited to get ahold of their free comic books. With more than a dozen titles people had the opportunity to choose books with some of their favorite characters. Titles included Avengers, Spiderman, Pokemon, Star Wars and more. For the past 14 years, Alter Ego Comics has participated in this event as a way to not only bring the community together but to also help bring children's favorite heroes alive.
"We've got different local artists that are going to join us today and just to remind people that a lot of the best stories that they're seeing, either on TV or in the movies, actually started out as comic books," said Marc Bowker, the owner of Alter Ego Comics.
In addition to the free comic books, kids also got the chance to participate in touch a truck. This is a program that allows kids to explore the trucks of first responders and learn more about those particular fields.
