LIMA, OH (WLIO) - There remains a national shortage of blood, and the American Red Cross teamed up with the Ohio State University in Lima, urging local residents to roll up their sleeves.
Those at Ohio State Lima are proud to embrace their crucial role in donating blood to those in need year-round.
The summer blood drive was held at the Perry Webb Building on campus on Wednesday and was open to the public. Over the last 20 years, the number of people donating blood through the Red Cross has fallen by nearly 40%. People who came to donate at the branch received a Red Cross umbrella, and with a valid email, they also received an e-gift card for a movie pass from Fandango.

The American Red Cross would also like to announce they are holding another blood drive on Thursday, July 11th in Miller City at the Sportsman Club building on South Main Street from noon to 6 p.m.
"I'm absolutely grateful that our student life department has put so much work in trying to bring the American Red Cross here, ya know every semester. So whether it's summer, spring, fall. I'm actually usually donating in the fall when I'm here. So yeah it's great that we offer something like this. To me it's really important because you never know who's gonna need blood, especially with the storms and the big need because this isn't a new thing. I mean the need has been around for a while. Anything we can do to help if we're able to," said Zach Walton, instruction librarian at OSU Lima.
