LIMA, OH (WLIO) - In an effort to address concerns about the housing market in the city of Lima, a newly created program can now offer additional assistance to area landlords.
The "Rapid Rental Repair" program is now underway. It provides assistance to eligible landlords with vacant units to do minor repairs and maintenance to get the unit rented. Requirements include, but are not limited to, the property being vacant at the time of repairs, agreeing to "HUD" established maximum rents, and the repairs must include maintenance-type improvements.
"The idea is, we're trying to help the landlords help their tenants out basically. So if they apply for our program and they get accepted through the application, there is a $5,000 maximum opportunity," explained Nicholas Thomas, City of Lima Housing loan originator.
That $5,000 opportunity is a reimbursement for eligible repairs done to the unit. Applications can be found on the City of Lima's website. Search for "Rapid Rental Repair." The city has earmarked $200,000 from the "Better Together" funding for this program.
