WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) – A Wapakoneta woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash in rural Auglaize County Friday morning.
Troopers from the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said Jennifer Rains, 49, was killed in the crash that happened just before 10 a.m. at the intersection of U.S. 33 and Town Line Lima Road. According to troopers, Rains was heading north on Town Line Lima Road and failed to stop at the stop sign at U.S. 33, and collided with a vehicle driven by Katelyn Clevenger, 31, also from Wapakoneta. Both vehicles came to rest off the road.

Emergency responders transported both women to Lima Memorial Hospital, where Rains was pronounced dead. The extent of Clevenger’s injuries is unknown at this time. Troopers said Rains was not wearing a seatbelt. The crash remains under investigation.

WAPAKONETA - Troopers with the Wapakoneta Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash that occurred at approximately 9:44 AM on July 12, 2025.
The crash took place on US-33 at the intersection of Town Line Lima Road. Jennifer Rains, age 49 of Wapakoneta, Ohio, was operating a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox southbound on Town Line Lima Road. Katelyn Clevenger, age 31 of Wapakoneta, Ohio was operating a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on US-33. The vehicles collided when Ms. Rains failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Town Line Lima Road and US-33. Both vehicles came to rest off the south side of US-33. Both drivers were transported by EMS to Lima Memorial Hospital where Ms. Rains was pronounced dead. She was not wearing a safety belt.
Piqua OSHP, the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office, St. Johns Fire and Rescue, Uniopolis Fire and EMS, and the Auglaize County CERT assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
