ST. MARYS, Ohio (WLIO) - When the weather starts to get nicer, it's time to start hiking.

Heritage trails in St Marys hosted an April Showers Canal Hike today, bringing all ages together for some time outside. Participants could walk the trail as much as they wanted, taking in the beauty with their friends and families. Trail mix, waters, and information on future events were provided, and each participant was able to take home their own tree to plant new life back into earth. Not only was this event good to connect with community members, but it had some other benefits as well.

Heritage Trails Park District hosts April Showers Canal hike

"You know, it's really important to get outside and be out in nature. It's not only good for your physical health, but it's good for your mental health to get out and hike and just enjoy nature and be outside and it brings the community together. We want to bring the community for the purpose of nature," says PJ Fought, executive director for Heritage Trails Park District.

The district has more events planned for the warmer seasons...you can check out their website.
