ST. MARYS, Ohio (WLIO) – UPDATE 6PM – St. Marys police have arrested a suspect in an early Saturday morning shooting at a downtown gas station.

Police say the incident happened around 4:30 a.m. Saturday at the Circle K gas station on Spruce Street in St. Marys. Officers were called to the location after someone reported a gunshot and found a male with a wound to his lower leg.
During the investigation, officers learned that two groups of individuals had been arguing at the gas station. A gun was brought out, and one shot was fired, hitting the victim. The victim was taken to the Joint Township Memorial Hospital with what is believed to be non-life-threatening injuries. Several people fled the scene before police arrived but were later located.
A 17-year-old from the Columbus area was taken into custody and booked at the juvenile detention facility in Troy on a charge of felonious assault. Police say this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing threat to the public. The investigation is ongoing, and more charges are likely as it continues.

According to the St. Marys mayor Joe Hurlbert, the incident happened around 4:30 a.m. at the Circle K. Two groups of older teenagers got into an argument, when one of them pulled out a gun and shot another one in the leg. The victim was taken to the hospital will non-life threatening injuries. The incident is still under investigation, the mayor says there is no threat to the public currently.
