A special request was sent to Governor Kasich to end the death penalty in Ohio.
The request was made by the head of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Toledo, Bishop Daniel Thomas, which comes as Ohio takes steps to perform the first execution in three years. The bishop sent a letter to the governor that said that the Catholic Church opposes the idea of the death penalty.
Bishop Thomas says there will be a candlelight prayer vigil next month for abolishing the death penalty.
