Bridging the Gap helps connect people with community health resources

LIMA, OH (WLIO) - People around the area found resources to help improve their mind, body, and spirit. This is the 10th year for Bridging the Gap Health and Wellness Expo. People could talk to different community agencies, businesses, and programs about the various services they offer to help children and adults. There were demonstrations from Soldiers of Honor and Bradfield Community Center's cardio drumming.  Plus, people got the chance to win prizes. The mission of Bridging the Gap has always been to help the underserved community members by improving their access to health care, and who they have focused on has grown over the last 10 years.

“We started out focusing on the African American community, but then we rapidly realized that there were many, many people who didn’t have access to good information and health care and really know what our community services were,” says Cheryl Nagy, Bridging the Gap. “So, that is how we have grown. We have people here helping our community from all over Northwest Ohio, Columbus, Toledo, Dayton. It is really a nice fit for all of our community people.”

Outside the event, people could pick up some free food from the West Ohio Food Bank and get a safety check on their vehicle to make sure their mirrors and seats are set properly.
