OHIO (WLIO) - Ohio is seeing a surge in flu cases.
The latest data from the CDC has the state in the very high category for flu activity. The last time Ohio was that high was the last part of December. Six other states, along with New York City and Washington, D.C. are also in the very high category. The CDC data is based on medical visits for respiratory illnesses that include a fever and a cough or a sore throat, meaning the cases aren't necessarily confirmed in a lab.
The highest number of hospitalizations in the state is in northeast Ohio. Flu season usually goes through March. You can view the CDC's Weekly U.S. Influenza Surveillance Report by visiting https://www.cdc.gov/flu/weekly/index.htm
