LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - A video game tournament was held to raise funds for Safety city and the DARE program.
Barry Electronics hosted a full day of friendly video game competition to raise money for local programs that educate kids on safety and drug prevention. Attendees would register, compete in many types of games like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros, and battle for prizes and trophies. In addition to the tournament, attendees were able to enjoy free video game play areas, concessions, and other family activities. Local DARE officers were there to talk about their program as well as to play games.
"Everybody remembers when they were a kid, when they had that first demonstration with the K-9 units, or they get to go through the safety city, and so, I think it's a great program, and anything we can do to help further that program in the future I think is worthwhile," says Brian Barry, owner of Barry Electronics.
After six years of not holding this tournament, organizers say the great turnout brought fun for the whole family, as well as proceeds for important programs in the Lima community.
