WAPAKONETA, Ohio (WLIO) – A Chicago man is in custody after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase through three counties Saturday afternoon.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Antwan Nathaniel, 36, fled from a traffic stop around noon in Auglaize County after a trooper attempted to pull him over for speeding. Authorities said Nathaniel headed north on I-75, reaching speeds of more than 100 mph. The chase continued after he exited the highway at Beaverdam and then re-entered I-75.
Troopers attempted to deploy stop sticks several times before one of Nathaniel’s vehicle tires was damaged near Findlay. He eventually pulled over near mile marker 160 in Findlay and surrendered. The Wapakoneta post of the highway patrol said Nathaniel was suicidal and was taken to Blanchard Valley Hospital. The incident remains under investigation.
