City of Lima says it's time to move those vehicles that are causing headaches for plows to clean side streets

Lima residents have had almost a week to move their vehicles after last week's winter storm and now the Lima Police Department is stepping in.

Officers have been patrolling neighborhoods looking for vehicles that haven’t been moved since the snowfall. Some roads have become narrower and plow trucks can’t get through. Whether it’s cars that haven’t moved at all or others that are parking on top of the snow, crews can’t get to it. Police are now enforcing the city’s “parking after a snowfall” ordinance.

Lima Patrolman Ashley Lovette explains, “Currently we’re going up and knocking on doors seeing is you can move it. If you can’t you’re going to get a warning tag for 48 hours. In the code, you had to move it so we can get the streets all cleared. (reporter question: And if they don’t comply?) They will be towed. As to this car, she said it was her sister’s car and she’ll have it removed.”

Lovette says they have had about a fifty-fifty response to getting cars moved. They had impounded 4 vehicles by the time we talked with them.
