Cloverdale Tears Down History

Nearly two weeks after a tornado tore through Cloverdale, residents continue to clean up, some even resorting to tearing down. The old village hotel, built in 1892, was the place to be when two railroad lines intersected in town. On Friday, the hotel turned residential home, was demolished.

The hotel is the 4th of 13 homes slated for demolition, including the Community Club. A handful of on-lookers watched and took video as the 121-year-old structure came down. Other than those few people watching, Cloverdale was quiet as many people used the extra day off to do some holiday shopping. Mayor Judd Spencer was happy to see residents doing something to clear their minds, as staying home to clean has become a depressing routine.

Mayor Spencer says the hope is to preserve as many artifacts, pictures and videos as possible, to make a documentary. By preserving history, residents will be reminded that while the town was devastated, everyone came together to rebuild Cloverdale.
