Donations of blood were coming in at a critical time of need today inside Mercy Health-St. Rita's.
People stopped by St. Rita's to donate some of their blood for the Solvita Blood Center blood drive. Their generous blood donations will go toward any area of medicine where it is needed. The donations come following a dramatic decline in blood donations over the summer months in addition to critical shortages of certain types of blood.

"This summer has been very tough with collections, and we're not out of the woods yet. The usage has been extremely high. The need is present; the need is every day. Right now, we have a critical shortage of type O blood, and we're also very low on type B blood. It's been persistent through the summer, and it's been an urgent need over these past few weeks," said Mark Pompilio, public relations and marketing manager at Solvita Blood Center.
Elida High School will be a site for a blood drive on Wednesday, September 18th, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
