LIMA, OH (WLIO) - Lima Councilman Thomas Jones and local partners announced the 2nd Unity in the Community event.

On Saturday, June 22nd, MLK Jr. Park will be full of fun activities, resources like food distribution, and live music for people of all ages to enjoy. There will be two DJs keeping the music going from noon to 9 p.m. and free fishing in the pond for kids. The goal of the event is to provide a full day of safe fun, educate residents about services available to help them, and show them what people can create when they work together.
"That's the most important thing that we're trying to generate here is unity in the community. So we have DJs here; that's going to get us pop lock-dropping and everything, and get the vibe going right. We just ask for a positive vibe; that's all we're here for, and just a positive time to bring the community together," said Jenelda Cowan, who is a vendor and organizer.

The NAACP will also be at the event, recruiting youth members and helping people get registered to vote.
"It's our job to get people to understand the importance of voting because with it has come all the rights and privileges that all of us are enjoying. And to not vote is to set the next generation up to not have the support that has been given to us," explained Ron Fails, the president of the Lima chapter of the NAACP.
