Edgewood Skate Arena celebrates 40 years of business

Forty years of family-friendly fun! Edgewood Skate Arena set its roots on Edgewood Dr. back when there wasn't much else other than farmland.

They celebrated the mile marker with a big birthday bash featuring door prizes and photos from the years past.

The Edgewood Skate Arena was always a dream of owner Betty Ray's, but while she never believed it would make it this far she says it is amazing to see how it has grown.

"We've got people coming back saying they haven't been here for 40 years or 30 years, but they're bringing their kids back now," says Ray. "The kids are a lot rowdier now than they used to be but it's fun."

One of those who has been bringing their family back for years is former employee Keith Johnson, who worked at the rink back when it first opened. Decades later, it still holds a place in his heart and he's happy to be able to share the memories with his grandkids.

"When they built it, this was the only thing, I mean, the car dealerships and stuff weren't here back then," says Johnson. "You know, skating has it's ups and downs just like any other sport and I'm glad that they've survived this long in Lima. I just with we could get more people out all the time because it's a great place to come and bring your kids and grandkids."

And Edgewood hopes to keep sharing memories with local families for years to come.
