ELIDA, Ohio (WLIO) - Elida students are continuing to learn this summer with Elida Elementary's summer library program.

The library holds sessions every Wednesday morning in June, giving kids entering kindergarten through fifth grade an opportunity to play with other children and learn through stories, activities, and games.

The program encourages kids to continue learning and being creative over the summer by giving them hands-on activities focused on dinosaurs and paleontology. Parents say the program is a great way for kids to not only continue learning during their summer break, but also to socialize with other children.

"It gives them a chance to interact with each other. It also gives them the chance of maybe being exposed to a new topic that they've never heard about before," said Dana Shardy, a parent of a participant of the program.

"They're reading, they're being asked questions, they're socializing and seeing friends throughout the summer. So I think it's just fun to look forward to something each week in June to come back into the school and just be with friends and the teachers that she's already used to," said Chelsea Hunt, another parent of a participant.

Wednesday morning's session featured students making dinosaur tracks, memory games, and building their own dinosaurs. Elida students said the program showed them how fun reading and the library can be over their summer break.

"The first time I got here, it was really good. But now, I actually like it. Every time I say I don't like it, but I do like it," said Patrick Capotosto, a participant of the program.

The program is holding its last session on June 24, with the theme being "Unearth a Story." Students may attend the session even if they have not been in the first three sessions.
