ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - A one-of-a-kind collection of the rarest historic military planes in the world is at the Allen County Regional Airport.
This once-in-a-lifetime experience allows people to not only tour the planes but an opportunity to go for a ride as well.
The Commemorative Air Force's Flying Legends of Victory Tour has made its way to the Lima area to showcase their restored World War II aircraft. Individuals there can climb into the B-17 Flying Fortress "Sentimental Journey" and B-25 Mitchell "Maid in the Shade" bombers. This once-in-a-lifetime experience allows people to not only tour the planes but an opportunity to go for a ride as well.
You can tour the historic planes at the Allen County Airport this weekend from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
"It's a bucket list item for most people. Especially this year on the B-17 because of "Masters of the Air." It's been very popular. People are generating a lot of interest in the B-17, and we are seeing a lot of people coming out to see our airplanes and fly on our airplanes. And that is a good thing, because that is what we are here to do is to preserve the memory of the men and women who flew on these airplanes, died on these airplanes, and built these airplanes. And to keep the history alive of that Greatest Generation," says Mike Mueller, Finance Officer, Flying Legends Tour.
You can tour the historic planes at the Allen County Airport this weekend from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. The cost is $15 per person or $30 for a family of 4. If you would like to go for a flight in either the B-17 or B-25, the cost ranges from $375 to $850 depending on the plane you want to fly in and where you sit in the plane.
