Several houses were evacuated in Findlay this morning(10/24/19) after a natural gas leak.

Gas Leak Being Repaired in Findlay

Construction crews from AEP were working in the 600 block of East Melrose Avenue when they struck a gas line. No one was hurt but the leak is considered serious enough to evacuate nearby homes. Parts of East Melrose are closed off and only open to local residents. Several agencies are on the scene trying to repair the issue but there's no timetable of how long it may take. The city is asking people to avoid the area.

10/24/2019 Media Release from the City of Findlay: Today at 10:07 a gas line was struck by construction crews from AEP at 605 E Melrose Ave causing a significant leak in the area. Police, Fire, and EMS are on scene as well as Columbia Gas and AEP. There are no current injuries, but Police/Fire are evacuating the residents from the immediate area as a precaution. 401, 403, 601, 603, 605, 607 and 700 E Melrose have been evacuated. E Melrose Ave from N Blanchard St. to Jennifer Ln is closed. E Melrose Ave from Jennifer Ln to Crystal Ave is only open to local residents. The City asks everyone to avoid the area when traveling.

There is no current time frame for repairs to be completed. 

According to AEP outage map, around 350 customers are without power in that area.  The estimated time of restoration is 6:30 pm Thursday.
