LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – The monthly Lightbulb Labs continues to give students a chance to explore careers that may be right at their fingertips.

The March lab featured hands-on activities in manufacturing and engineering. Guests could construct catapults, learn about structural engineering using plastic cups, and discover what makes an electrical circuit work.

Participants also had the opportunity to design a keychain using a laser and take it home. The Lightbulb Lab aims to show young students the variety of career fields available in the local area.

Hands-On Learning: Lima’s Lightbulb Lab inspires future workforce

“We try to tie it in with all jobs in this area, and you talk about the greater Lima area, so that they have an opportunity to say, hey, you know, I can stay here. That's what we want our people to do, is to stay here. So, if we train them young and get them connected at a younger age as they go through middle school, high school, and then career from there, they'll be prepared. So, we're preparing a workforce, but they have to have an understanding of what these things are, and you have to start at an early age,” said Jed Metzger, executive director of the Lima Area Chamber Foundation.

The next Lightbulb Lab is scheduled for April 11, focusing on robotics and drones.
