The interim head of the local Red Cross is headed down to South Carolina to help with Hurricane Dorian.
Todd James has been deployed to Charleston, South Carolina to prepare for Dorian's arrival. This is his 27th deployment to assist during natural disasters for the Red Cross. James will be helping with setting up evacuation shelters and working as a spokesperson, informing the public of the services the Red Cross is offering.
"Making sure everyone has access to food and shelter. We'll have our counselors on the ground to help folks get kinda through the trauma of what they're going through, especially if their home is severely affected, and then we'll start looking at the recovery phase and how we help folks get back into their home and start the cleaning process and find the resources that they need as they start to recover from this," explained Todd James, Executive Director of the Red Cross of North Central Ohio.
After making landfall in the Bahamas as a Category 5 hurricane, Dorian is expected to hit the Carolinas at Category 2 status by Friday. You can donate to the Red Cross by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or go to redcross.org
