LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a surge in fatal crashes across west central Ohio.
In the past five weeks, nine people have died in traffic crashes throughout the region. Troopers say contributing factors include impaired driving, distracted driving, speeding, and failure to wear seat belts.

“Unfortunately, in the last several weeks, the Lima Post has seen an uptick in fatal crashes in the area,” said Sgt. Chad Recker of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. “A lot of these crashes could be deterred by not driving distracted, driving sober, and making sure that you have your seat belt on.”
The Highway Patrol urges drivers to buckle up, put the phone down, and never drive under the influence.
