The Johnny Appleseed Park District will be celebrating a major milestone this year.
The tagline for the 50th anniversary is "Celebrate tradition -- embrace innovation". The district states that it is crucial that they make a commitment to embracing ways that they can improve the local parks. The district is also gearing up for a special fifty-mile challenge to help celebrate the milestone.
"So we got a 50-mile trail challenge... there's about 40 miles of trails in the park district so you might have to walk a couple of them twice," said Tyler Black, Director of Johnny Appleseed Park District. "You can come into the park district office, you can visit our website, download those forms, and it's kind of on the honor system. There's some giveaways that we've had, donations that we've had for kind of grand prizes at the end of the year."
The organization will also be changing locations soon, from Ada Road to Slabtown Road. Construction is still underway but is expected to be completed soon.
"It's going to help a lot of collaboration and just community minded focus for the park district," Black said. "We are about three weeks ahead of schedule inside. Looking at a June 1st completion date, right around June 1st, and hopefully the move-in date towards the middle of June."
More information on the opening of the new office, as well as 50th-anniversary plans, can be found on the district's social media accounts.
