The Lima Noon Optimist Safety City, a fixture in the community for almost 50 years, has seen a surge in student participation this year. Officer Eric Mericle of the Lima Police Department said their field trip program has been attracting students from surrounding counties, hitting a milestone of 1,400 student visitors since March.
Twenty-five years ago, the club launched its "non-traditional" scholarship program, aimed at helping adults who faced significant challenges return to post-secondary education. Today, the program topped $1 million awarded in scholarships.
LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - Lima Memorial Health System is honoring those who have been with the organization for decades.
They have been exchanging cultural, educational, and business ideas for many years, with this year being a special milestone. It has been 25 years since the City of Lima and Harimo-cho, Japan, signed an agreement to become sister cities. Since 1999, more than 300 people have participated in cultural exchanges. Both adults and students from both cities have had the privilege to experience life in the other sister city community. There will be several special guests at this year's celebration.
They have been making life easier for area seniors and persons with disabilities for half a century. The Area Agency on Aging 3, also known as PSA3, is celebrating 50 years of providing programs and meeting the needs of thousands of clients in a 19-county area. Programs include nutrition, home health services, transportation, and so much more.

DELPHOS, OH (WLIO) - A Delphos barber is celebrating a milestone many don't achieve with six decades behind the barber chair!
"The impact of Neil Armstrong is still felt in our community fifty years later," said Steve Henderson, Interim Mayor of Wapakoneta. "Our residents have always grown up with this unbelievable landmark, and future generations will continue to learn about our hometown hero -- and he never wanted to be called that -- with continued inspiration."
The health system was able to bring back their "High-Five" celebration after having to take some time off because of the pandemic. 360 associates were honored who hit a milestone in the year, 2021 and 2022. Combined they have a total of 445 years of providing care to area people at the hospital.
The Johnny Appleseed Park District will be celebrating a major milestone this year. The tagline for the 50th anniversary is "Celebrate tradition -- embrace innovation". The district states that it is crucial that they make a commitment to embracing ways that they can improve the local parks. The district is also gearing up for a special fifty-mile challenge to help celebrate the milestone.
