Many items that will be used to stuff Easter eggs and baskets could cause harm to your pets. Chocolate and most candy can cause your pet to have stomach and intestinal issues. Small toys can be a choking hazard and the grass used in your baskets could cause major problems.

Allen County Dog Warden Julie Shellhammer explains, “A lot of us like to use the cellophane Easter grass, easy. However, that can get wrapped around the intestines and be very dangerous. It can choke them. Big clumps get wrapped around the teeth. All kinds of hazards with that as well. But they do make a paper grass. So, it would be able to digestible. It wouldn’t hurt the pet if they just swallow some or it would digest eventually.”

If your pet does ingest anything unusual, keep an eye on them and call your veterinarian if you notice signs that the animal is in distress.
