With the weather and conserving gas, it's not a bad time to make sure your furnace is running properly.

When it gets this cold, Bob Hare of Quality Mechanical Services said they can get a bit overworked. He is reminding people to make sure filters are clean and take necessary steps to keep the home heated. He recommends keeping doors, blinds and shades closed at all times, check that all registers are open and not covered and be cautious of setting the thermostat higher to heat your home faster. Hare has received many calls about furnace break downs today.

This kind of temperature, yes, we'll be getting quite a few (calls)," Hare said, president of Quality Mechanical Services. "The wind plays havoc with it with some of the higher efficient furnaces, the stacks that are outside are frosting up. We're seeing quite a bit of that. Also seeing quite a bit of the furnaces doing all that they can do. With these extreme temperatures, they're struggling a little bit to keep the temperatures in the house some people would find to expect."

Hare is expecting more calls to come in heading into Thursday.
