LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — In celebration of National Tennis Month, the Lima Area Tennis Association is inviting the community to hit the courts this weekend for a free tennis event open to players of all skill levels.
Founded in 1979, the nonprofit organization is dedicated to growing and promoting the game of tennis throughout the Lima area. Over the past four decades, the association has offered free summer and winter youth camps, tennis fun nights, tournaments and other community programs aimed at building confidence, character and healthy habits for people of all ages and abilities.
LATA President Joan Collar said the event is designed to introduce more people to the sport in a fun and welcoming environment.
“Tennis has been known as the world's healthiest sport, and so we're offering from two to 3:30 on Saturday afternoon, folks ages 12 and above, to come out and play a little bit of red ball tennis with us,” Collar said. “It's just going to be a fun time with fun drills and games for everybody.”
Organizers are asking participants to pre-register online so they can prepare enough tennis balls and loaner rackets for the event. The program is open to anyone ages 12 and older, regardless of experience level.
