Law enforcement give reminders about bicycle safety

With warmer temperatures, many children and adults will be hitting the roads on their bicycles and law enforcement wants to remind people about the safety do's and don'ts while peddling.

Do an inspection of your bike to make sure it's in good working order and always ride with traffic while staying close to the curb in a straight line. Obey all traffic laws and use hand signals when necessary. There is also one thing that riders will need that they may not be aware of.

"You also need to make sure you have a bell or a horn on your bike, no sirens or whistles. You also need, if you're going to ride at night, you need a white light on the front and a red light on the back," Officer Eric Mericle said.

Mericle stresses wearing a helmet as head injuries account for 75% of bicycle related injuries. He also wants to remind motorists to be alert for bicyclists.
