"Let's Talk" about preventing addiction

How do you stop an epidemic? You need to connect and talk.

In an effort to stop the drug addiction problems our region is facing, the We Care People have launched Let's Talk. Executive Director of Mental Health and Recovery Services of Allen, Auglaize, and Hardin counties Mike Schoenhofer says first you need to find the cause and then prevent it. They believe the cause of this epidemic is the lack of connection between people and when we talk we can possibly prevent a serious situation before it occurs.

"We can restore that connection by encouraging parents, grandparents, coaches, youth pastors, whoever, to start talking to their kids about three important topics. Suicide, drugs, and to focus on your kid's strengths," said Schoenhofer.

"It's so powerful, I've done it with my kids and they're young and it's very easy to do even with them and I know that if I do it now and talk to them openly about these things, when they get older, I'll be able to talk to them about the harder things," commented parent Cody Ridenour.
