LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Lima Senior High School DECA students made a $1,000 donation to the Special Olympics.
Students raised the funds through online merchandise sales and their annual Buddy Walk in September, held in partnership with the Down Syndrome Committee of Western Ohio. The Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities matched part of the donation. This is the program's sixth year donating to the Special Olympics, a cause the students say is important.
“I think the Special Olympics is so underrated, because it gives people the opportunity to do sports that they never would have been able to if they didn't have the support that they have with the Special Olympics,” said Anna Haynes, a senior and second-year DECA member at Lima Senior High School.
Lima Senior DECA students will also host face painting, cookies, and T-shirt sales at this weekend's home basketball game against Shawnee.
