LIMA (WLIO) — Minster High School advanced to the Division 6 district championship with a 3-1 win over Lima Central Catholic High School during semifinal action at Elida.

The Wildcats struck first in the second inning when John Inskeep put the ball in play and an offline throw to first allowed Jace Hemmelgarn and Andrew Wiss to score for a 2-0 lead.

LCC answered in the third as Brady Jacobs reached safely on a ground ball, bringing home Andrew Baldauf to cut the deficit to one.

Minster added an insurance run in the fourth when Carson Kaylor’s ground ball plated Connor Elliot to make it 3-1.

The Thunderbirds threatened in the sixth with two runners on base, but Hemmelgarn delivered a highlight-reel catch in right field to save two runs and preserve the Minster lead.

In the seventh, Dom Meyer entered for the save and sealed the victory by inducing a game-ending 4-6-3 double play.

Minster moves on to face Montpelier in the Division 6 district final Saturday at noon in Bryan.
