BLUFFTON, Ohio (WLIO) — Shuffleboard players from across Ohio are in Bluffton this week competing in one of the Ohio Shuffleboard Association’s summer tournament stops.
The group travels to eight courts around the state for weekly tournaments from May through September, with national tournaments scheduled in July in Lakeside. Players said local clubs compete several times a week, but these tournaments bring together competitors from across the state with prize money on the line. Players also say the sport is a great way to meet new people while staying active.
“It's not a stressful sport on your body. Anybody can play in my opinion. Young, old, we have players in their 90s that are here in Ohio. And it's just very addictive. It's just fun. There's lots of strategy, you don't just shoot it, you have to strategize,” said Mona Mapes, vice president of the Ohio Shuffleboard Association.
Play continues Friday with an open doubles tournament. Those interested in contacting the association can reach president Jeff Fenimore at (419) 957-0728.
