According to UAW Local 1219 officials, around 90 temp workers at the Lima Ford plant have been laid off, along with temps at several other Ford plants across the country.

Because there is an ongoing strike, these individuals do not qualify for unemployment in Ohio. Instead, they will be able to register for strike pay until a deal is reached with the automaker.

The union has no plans yet to respond directly to these layoffs, but a local strike is not off the table.

"We're just ready, it's been a long time coming. It's kind of a chess game, back and forth so this is the company's way of trying to cause discourse. Sadly, for the company, we're ready for it," says Jeff Adams, President, UAW Local 1219.

In the meantime, Adams says the laid-off workers from the Lima plant will be volunteering with local organizations like Our Daily Bread and The Salvation Army.
