The Lincolview School District is getting ready to embark on construction of a multimillion dollar community center. The 5.4 million dollar project, which includes some renovations to the bus barn, will be built beside the current track and field complex. The Superintendent of the district says the center will serve educational and wellness purpose, and will include three courts, an indoor track, workout facility and locker rooms. The 35 thousand square foot facility will be open to residents who live the district, those that open enroll and alumni. Officials say this is their way to give back to the community.
"We're always trying to figure out how to get our community to be more involved, and we have a lot of people that come to see our athletic events, our band and music events, but now we're kind of looking past that. We're looking at what can we give back to them so when they come to our school, they have something they can use, and we're also looking at the wellness side of things," Lincolnview School District Superintendent Jeff Snyder said.
The community center will be paid for through the districts cash reserve balance and won't cost voters money. Snyder says many of the logistics are still being worked out but they hope to have the facility built in spring of 2018.
