Finding that perfect gift or preparing your house for guests can make the holidays the most stressful season of all. The Director of the Child Development Center at Ohio Northern says going into the holidays with an open mind is a good way to keep families and children at ease. They say a flexible schedule is important and allowing your children to have down time on their days off is also key. The director says for children, there should be an emphasis not only on getting gifts but on the true meaning of the holidays.
"Just stressing the spirit of the holiday and giving them some sort of expression of giving and not just receiving and kind of make it a life lesson also, so it's a good way to show children it's not all about just the receiving," Director June Zimmerman said.
In the end she says the holidays should not be overwhelming and should be focused on spending time with family.
