FINDLAY, Ohio (WLIO) — Area students are reaching for the stars this week through a hands-on STEAM camp at the University of Findlay's Mazza Museum.

The "Intergalactic Problem Solvers" camp is giving students in grades 5-8 the opportunity to explore science, technology, engineering, art and math through a variety of activities.

Campers have learned coding skills, programmed rovers to complete tasks and explored concepts related to space exploration. On Thursday, educators from Imagination Station in Toledo led a rocket demonstration, where students built and tested their own rockets while learning the science behind them.

Camp organizers say the program is designed to spark curiosity and encourage a lifelong love of learning.

"This might be the first step for one of them discovering that they really love the planetarium and that they want to study astrology forever. Or they might learn that they actually want to go to college, or that they enjoyed being on a university campus and take that further," said Kristine Habelmann, education manager for the Mazza Museum. "I really think what we want to do is just instill a love of learning or a passion for something, excitement for something, that they can take with them for years to come."

The Mazza Museum's annual Art Camp is scheduled for July 20-24. Registration information and a full list of upcoming programs can be found here.
