Newly accepted students into the Community Medicine Degree Track Program took a tour of the medical center and talked to doctors and other medical students about the training they are getting at the hospital. Mercy Health and the Ohio State College of Medicine have teamed up for the program, and during the second look visit, the students get to see the benefits of having a small setting for their hands-on education.

"There are some students who are seeking a community medicine experience. That means to train in a place like St. Rita's as opposed to a really large academic center," says Dr. Matt Owens, Chief Clinical Officer, Mercy Health-St. Rita's. "This partnership with Ohio State University College of Medicine is really important to us because we can give the students the best of both worlds."

"When you come and train here, it's a little bit different than training in the big city. We have a lot more one-on-one with our attendings," says Dr. JJ Sreenan, director of the Mercy Health Graduate Medical Education Program. "So, the students that come here get a lot more hands-on experience here as compared to a lot of the bigger cities. So, that's very attractive to a lot of the medical students, particularly those who like doing procedures and are interested in doing procedures."

In two weeks, the students have to cut their list of medical schools to three and make their final decision in May.
