National Teen Driving Safety Week

October 21 to 27 is National Teen Driving Safety Week and this is the perfect time for parents to talk to their teens about responsible driving habits.

Teen drivers remain one of Ohio's most at risk groups when it comes to driving responsibly.

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death in teens.

According to the National Highway Safety Administration, teens whose parents impose driving restrictions and set good examples typically are less risky drivers.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Lt. Tim Grigsby says, "Distracted driving affects everyone. It especially distracts teen drivers. Mostly because they're inexperienced and then when you couple cell phone usage or playing with the radio or whatever else is distracting them, the consequences could be deadly."

From 2015 to 2017, teen drivers in Ohio were involved in over 130,000 crashes.

Ohio law prohibits any type of handheld device being used while behind the wheel.
