As winter settles in, we are expected to get more snow this weekend and into the foreseeable future. The District 1 administrator for ODOT has some tips on how to properly maneuver around snowplows and how you can drive safely in the winter weather.

With snow possibly expected this weekend, ODOT expects to have snowplows and salt trucks out on the roads.

"Number one, slow down. When you're out in snow and ice conditions, slow down so that you have control of your vehicle. Obviously, if we're out there, that means the conditions aren't very good. And we're plowing at slower speeds than you're wanting to travel normally, so if you just give us some room to operate, it's tough to see you, especially if the wind is blowing and snow is blowing around. So slow down and give us plenty of opportunity to do our job, and then when it's safe to pass, go ahead and pass," suggested Rod Nuveman, ODOT District 1 Highway Management Administrator.
