Counties throughout Northwest Ohio will now be receiving new voting equipment, thanks to a new voting program.
Over the next year, a little over a hundred million dollars will go towards replacing old voting machines in all 88 Ohio counties. Allen County will be receiving a total of 50 new machines.
This was made possible by the Voting Equipment Acquisition Program which was sponsored by Ohio Secretary of State Frank Larose. Larose says the new equipment will ultimately help make the voting process more efficient.
“Some people like the bubble sheet kind of voting machines where you fill in your own bubble and have it scanned,” said Larose. “Some people like the touch screens. If you have an opinion about that you should contact your county board of elections because that’s where that decision is going to be made. The fact is when Ohioans show up to vote, they should be voting on a secure, effective machine, and that’s what we’re going to have with this new generation of election equipment in Ohio.”
Counties will receive the funding in phases and all machines should be replaced by the 2020 presidential election.
