Today is National Hire a Veteran Day and our very own Leslie Moreno spoke to a local company about why they take a first look at veterans when they're hiring.
"As an employer we really view it as our responsibility to support them as they supported us through their service," says Human Resource Leader at Procter and gamble, Robert Rutty.
Rutty says veterans have special skills that sets them apart, and when they're hiring a veterans applications goes to the top of their pile.
"They bring a perseverance and a tenacity to win, those are the skills that enable us to be successful as an employer when we bring on our men and women of our armed services," says Rutty.
Joe Patton from Ohio Means Jobs Allen County says hiring a veteran is nothing but good for both the employer and employee and it definitely has its perks.
"One of the perks of hiring a vet is you can get a work opportunity tax credit when you hire a veteran, and a lot of the employers can receive up to 7 to 9 thousand dollars just for hiring a returning vet, it's a tax incentive," says Patton.
And as a part of P&G's effort to support veterans, they have an affinity group to help them adapt to their work environment and their community.
"We're just happy to be able to be part of the process that enables our men and women to return home and to have effective careers as they joint back up with the Lima community," says Rutty.
