Remember to check smoke detector batteries while springing clocks forward

While you are springing forward because of daylight savings Saturday night or Sunday morning, it is also a good time to check and change your smoke and CO2 detectors batteries. The Ohio State Fire Marshal wants residents to either replace your batteries or check the expiration date on long-lasting batteries to ensure that they are working properly.  Even homes with hard wired smoke alarms and "smart home" alarms have battery backups and should be checked too. Having a working smoke detector and developing an escape plan are the best way to make sure you and your family are safe in case of a fire.
