Rhodesology mini camps gives students hands-on learning opportunities

Students got their chance to work one on one with local professionals to expand their knowledge in science and technology. The Rhodesology STEMM Mini Camps are an abbreviated version of the summer camps complete with a lot of hands-on learning. On Saturday employees from GROB worked with the students to learn more about how an electric motor works and learn how to build one themselves. The mini-camps are for students in the fourth through seventh grade and cover a variety of topics with the hopes to spark an interest in the child that could last a lifetime.

“Kids really do enjoy the hands-on activities,” says Melissa Johnson, Rhodesology STEMM Camp.” They can watch videos, see a lot of things going on along with the STEM activities. But when they get to come in and do it themselves, right now we are having kids having to troubleshoot, like why isn’t this working. It gets their minds working in a way that they might not normally do, but it also gives them an opportunity to learn some skills that they can use in life.”

The students will learn about wind energy and automated manufacturing in upcoming mini camps.
