“Our Gen-Next Makers campers will get to experience not only in-classroom activities that expand their knowledge of science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” said Amber Martin, coordinator of Workforce and Small Business Development, “but they’ll also get behind-the-scenes looks at industries and manufacturers in our community.”

The 11-week camp runs from June through August, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Each week features a unique theme with games, crafts, and activities related to it. Participants also receive daily gym and pool time, and lunches are provided through the Lima City Schools Summer Lunch Program. The camp is open to children ages 6 to 12.

A STEM camp at the Lima Public Library is inspiring young minds through a lot of activities. Students ages 10 through 16 are participating in a 4-day summer electronics camp this week to create electromagnetics, burglar alarms, and blinking lights. The lessons taught give students the chance to tackle eighth-grade science concepts and dive deeper into their passion for science. With tools in hand, these future innovators make friends and discoveries through interactive, hands-on learning.

Some local students took flight, as they learn a little more about drones thanks to Rhodes State College. The Rhodesology mini-camp Saturday morning focused on precision agriculture drones, similar to the ones that local professionals use in the fields.    The mini-camps are for kids second through seventh grade and are just a sample of the hands on activities that the students would do during the Rhodesology week long summer camps.  The students showed of their flying skills on drones that were more advanced than they are used to.
