A STEM camp at the Lima Public Library is inspiring young minds through a lot of activities.

Students ages 10 through 16 are participating in a 4-day summer electronics camp this week to create electromagnetics, burglar alarms, and blinking lights. The lessons taught give students the chance to tackle eighth-grade science concepts and dive deeper into their passion for science. With tools in hand, these future innovators make friends and discoveries through interactive, hands-on learning.

Students are participating in a 4-day summer electronics camp this week to create electromagnetics, burglar alarms, and blinking lights.

"Students will be interested in this because it's a chance to actually do the projects. We hear things in a lecture, in a classroom, we can even watch a video, but to put your hands on the parts and build something, you learn more than you can ever learn just listening to a lecture or even watching a video. So, it's the opportunity to learn more about it, to explore," said David Sproles, a library camp volunteer.

The science camp not only teaches skills through fun experiences but also offers a chance to pursue interests that could shape their futures.

"I chose the STEM camp because I'm really interested in science. I actually do want to be a doctor when I grow up. I feel like I'm actually learning it because if you're just reading a book, you just feel like you're reading it and not actually doing it yourself, so you get the full understanding about it," commented Taylor Wall, an 8th grader at St. Gerard.

They hope to offer the camp to kids in the Lima community next summer as well to continue fostering electronic-based creativity.
